STEPFAMILY COUNSELING
Dr. Fader is a certified step-family coach. He obtained this certification from the training that he completed with
Dr. Jeannette Lofas at the Stepfamily Foundation.
Dr. Fader conducts weekly groups and individual sessions for Step-Parents and their partners in his office in New York City.
Groups meet weekly for ten weeks and focus on giving stepparents and their spouses skills in dealing with common issues that stepfamilies or blended familes often face.
Groups are limited to 8-10 people (4-5 couples). In the group participants recieve reading materials on stepfamilies and will discuss those materials
with other couples each week. Some of the issues that are covered in the course of the group:
-
Dealing with the other Biological Parent
- Managing special occasions
- Expectations and how to handle them
- Fighting
- Money
- Guilt
- Co-Parenting
- Boundaries and Roles
- A new baby
- Feeling included/excluded
- Respect or Disrespect
- Disciplining step-children
Dr. Fader will work with each couple to help them develop strategies for these and other specific problems that blended families may be experiencing.
In addition, participants in each group will read and discuss sections from a well regarded text written especially for step families.
An example is “Step Families: Love, Marriage, and Parenting in the First Decade” by James Bray, PhD.
Please contact Dr. Fader for more information.
Dr. Fader will conduct a phone interview with you at no cost to determine if the stepfamily group will be helpful for you and your blended family.
Before you join the group, Dr. Fader will meet with you and your significant other to further evaluate how he can best help
you and your Stepfamily. Dr. Fader is also available to meet individually with stepfamilies for family therapy and stepparents for
coaching and with couples apart from the group setting.
